Sangam Timeline

Our path to officially becoming a registered association in Berlin took more than a year as we went through a series of discussions and paper work, but the end we made it and would like to share with you our journey.

Jallikattu Protest

On a cold January morning in 2017, more than 200 people from the Tamil Community in Berlin gathered in front of the Brandenburger Tor to peacefully protest against the decision of the Supreme court to ban our traditional Jallikattu event in Tamil Nadu. This event sowed the seeds for Berlin Tamil Sangam.

Our First Event
Tamil New Year Celebrations

On 29th April 2017, we held our first event. More than 150 people graced the occasion and gave us an overwhelming support to carry on with our effort to officially register Berlin Tamil Sangam as an association in Germany.

Official Announcement

Thanks to the valiant effort of a number of people, we officially announced to the community our intention to start a registered association in Berlin and we were welcoming new members to be a part of our family.

Our Success Story
Berlin Tamil Sangam e.V.

On February 5th 2018, we were officially registered as Berlin Tamil Sangam e.V. in Berlin. What began a year ago as a wish for many good hearted souls BTS e.V. was official and we began our work towards promotion of our Tamil culture and its richness.

First of its kind in Europe,

First of its kind in Europe, BTS joined hands with Tamil associations in Germany and Luxembourg to help Folk artists in India during the first wave of Covid.

Strengthening our pan European ties

Strengthening our pan European ties, BTS collaborated with other Tamil Sangams across Europe together under the banner of Europe Tamilargal and sustained Tamil Studies at Cologne University, Germany. Through the Europe Tamilargal Initiative, BTS e.V has access to multiple global connections and organizations.
